Her life was torn down to the foundation. Rebuilding will take one small miracle at a time.

The Treading Water Series, Book 2

“Marking Time” continues the story begun in “Treading Water” as Clare Harrington begins a new life. She’s considered a miracle, but everything that’s happened since she recovered from a three-year coma has been something less than miraculous. Now left to grapple with the aftermath of a selfless decision, she is home from the hospital and trying to figure out what the next chapter in her miraculous recovery has in store for her. Meanwhile, her eighteen-year-old daughter Kate, a talented singer and songwriter, sets out to pursue her musical dreams in Nashville. Her parents have agreed to allow Kate to spend a year there, but they couldn't have anticipated Kate falling in love with a much older man. Her newly divorced parents are forced back together to confront their wayward daughter. Spanning from Newport, Rhode Island, to Nashville, Tennessee, to Stowe, Vermont, "Marking Time" is the story of new beginnings and new loves.

Of "Treading Water," reviewers said

"Treading Water is a definite must read! Treading Water creates an emotional firestorm within the reader. It shines the light on the good and the bad in life and proves that one moment can change everything and it’s never too late to find love. Marie Force grabbed my heart and squeezed every ounce of emotion out of it but most importantly her monumental story left me blissful. Treading Water may be fiction but it gives me hope; hope in everyday people and happily ever after. I cannot wait for the next book in this trilogy, Marking Time." —Joyfully Reviewed, a "Recommended Read" for November!

"This isn't your typical romance where you're positive you're going to get the happy ending you were hoping for at the beginning. It will rip your heart out at times and having you weeping for joy at others. A stunning story about learning to love again and learning when to let go to those you love." —Night Owl Reviews, Reviewer Top Pick

Marking Time Treading Water Series Book 2 edition by Marie Force Literature Fiction eBooks

Marie Force continues to tell an amazing story in Marking time, book two in her Treading Water Series. This book continues with the characters from book one, but it is focused from Claire and Aiden's perspective.

Claire is doing her best to find her way after recovering from her coma. To get away from it all, she moves to Vermont to help her brother for a few months. The last thing she expects is to meet a broody carpenter who makes her think differently about her life.

Marie has an amazing way with words. She captivates you from the start and does not let go. This series is one I could read over and over again. The angst, trials and tribulations as well as the connection between the characters makes me fall in love each time I've read it. I felt every emotion possible while reading this book. I laughed, I cried, I swooned and I fell in love. This is a series I would recommend to all. The best part is that there is more to come for me to read!

PS - The audio version of this book is phenomenal. Holly Fielding does an amazing job. She makes the story come to life and I could not stop listening to this. She has a tremendous talent and paired with Marie Force's story, it was quite a treat!

Marking Time Treading Water Series Book 2 edition by Marie Force Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Complex soap opera, and a really good one. It had two major plots going on at the same time, with a myriad of subplots. I preferred the plot featuring the mom, recently awoken from a 3 year coma, finding out her husband had his pregnant girlfriend living in their house. She’s a saint, or close enough to one.

The other major subplot has to do with her 18 year old daughter starting an affair with a man 28 years older. I’ll be honest - I skipped over this one as much as possible, because, nice as he was...just no. And they both kept *lying*. I’m probably not going to read the fourth book because at this point I consider that story over, but hey, I’m of New England stock like the folks in these books, and dude, with an 18 year old? Wait a bit. Find another woman. Okay, whatever.

Plenty of soap opera style melodrama very well done (even the parts I skimmed).
I didn't read the first book but, apparently it wouldn't have been necessary as the happenings were rehashed over and over. I was really interested in Clare's story but started to lose interest as so much of the book was actually about her daughter Kate. Even Clare's ex-husband Jack got a major story line. The whole thing was so angsty that it felt more like it should have been a daytime soap opera and not a book. I won't be reading any more of the series because I just didn't have a connection with any of the characters. Had they each had their own book, I probably would have...especially Clare.

Sexual situations may offend some readerrs
I did not realize when I read this book that it was in a series. I got it on Bookbub and it wasn't listed as a series. That being said, when I started reading, I absolutely loved the storyline, but certain things felted out of place for me, like the way everyone so casually mentioned Clare's rape. It was like it had been talked about before, which it may have been in the first book. I don't know because I haven't read it. Now I understand why it was so easily mentioned. I found the storyline to be heartwrenching and wonderful, but I didn't understand how Clare was so madly in love with Jack and then within a month or two told Aidan that she was no longer in love with him. How do you fall out of love that quickly? Wouldn't it have been more honest to say that you think about him less and less every week and you're getting over him? That's just my opinion. My last complaint was that I was under the impression that this was a romance, but it felt more like a family story. I have no problem with seeing into the lives of others in the book, especially if you will have other books based on those characters, but there were many chapters dedicated to people that were no the main characters. Those are my three and only complaints. The rest of the book was well written and I really enjoyed Clare and Aidan's story.
Making Time is a love story about letting go, and while this probably may not make sense, let me go over the plot and you'll probably get it...

Clare Harrington woke up from a three-year coma against all odds after a horrible car collision. She should celebrate her lucky stars, but the world had left her behind. Her husband had fallen for a different woman, Andi, while she's out of the picture and gotten her pregnant with twins. Clare divorced him, let him start a new family. Their oldest daughter Kate, with musical talent, went to Nashville, getting a year to explore her talent... and fell in love there with a much older man... a college buddy of her father, even as she had a brush with her destiny. Clare in the meanwhile, had to leave her home with too many memories behind, and moved to her brother's cabin in Vermont, and came to know a gruff carpenter there... who harbors his own pain... Will Clare find a new love? Will Kate meet her success? At what price to love and family?

Marie Force managed to wring out some genuine conflicting emotions about letting go, betrayal, trust, and more from the characters. Clare loved her husband by letting him go. They both have to let Kate go, and trust her to choose right when she chose an older man. But this story is about Clare letting go of her past and embracing her own future. While the plot lines seem disparate, Marie Force skillfully jumped among plotlines with skill rivals that of Tom Clancy's technothrillers. And what's even more important, I had NOT read book 1, and this book is still enjoyable. Highly recommended.
